Frequently Asked Questions…

A: The months of July and August are generally the warmest time of the year, with the best weather, and the lake is also at its warmest for swimming in. For other interests such as bird watching, fishing or hunting, the shoulder seasons in the Spring and Fall are fabulous!

A: If you have a playful, well mannered, non-aggressive Dog that is fully housetrained, then our Dog would be more than happy to romp and play with him or her. Other pets are less suited to Renata’s environment. An additional charge of $25 per night will be added to your bill. Please ensure that you bring enough dog food for his or her stay. For multiple dogs or other pets, Please contact us.

A: Yes. If you suffer from hay fever, or have sensitivities to animal hair, pollen, grasses & weeds or in certain conditions, smoke from forest fires, please be aware that some or all of these can be present in Renata.

A: No, the Lodge is a smoke free environment. However, feel free to smoke outside, away from the entrances.

A: No. If you need anything specific for your stay please plan ahead and bring it with you. We do have a selection of handmade pottery and other items available for sale at the Lodge, including a small assortment of toiletries (in case you forgot your own), however there are no stores of any kind in Renata.

A: The West Kootenay area has a wide variety of interesting communities to visit during your stay. Nelson is a vibrant arts community with fantastic galleries, cafes, restaurants, shopping and a wide variety of music venues. Rossland is Canada’s Alpine City and has some of the best mountain biking you could ask for, including the Seven Summits Trail, a top 10 epic ride for North America. They are both about 1.5 hours away from Renata. Closer is Castlegar, which has a rich Dhoukobor heritage, 2 golf courses and is a good launching spot for exploring the surrounding mountains. Between Castlegar and Nelson is the entrance to the Slocan Valley, where the Slocan River quietly winds its way between towering mountain ranges and small communities surprise a visitor as they round the next corner of the highway.
There are many things to do and see in the West Kootenays, plan to stay and explore beyond your visit to Simply Delicious! We have lived in the area for nearly 20 years and will be happy to help you find the things to do that match your interests.

A: Flying
1. The nearest option for flying is Castlegar BC (YCG). It has a smaller regional airport that is served by Air Canada with daily connecting flights arriving from Vancouver (YVR) and Calgary (YYC). Rental vehicles available at the airport, or we can arrange to pick you up and bring you to the Lodge ourselves.
2. The nearest International airport (GEG) is located in Spokane, Washington, a 4.5 hour drive south-west of Castlegar. If you are planning a longer stay, or have relatives that you’d like to visit, this is another option, but please be aware that you will need your passport and identification to cross the Canada/USA border, and that wait times can be unpredictable.
3. For direct flights to Simply Delicious Lodge we can arrange a Helicopter flight right to our doorstep! Please contact us for more details.

A: Renata is approximately a one hour drive and a short boat ride north of Castlegar BC. Rental vehicles are available at the Castlegar Airport from Budget Rent a Car. The drive from Castlegar to the Anderson Point boat launch where we pick you up is scenic, filled with wildlife, and can be difficult to follow due to poor signage. Upon booking your visit with us we will send you a complete information package with detailed and accurate driving directions.

A note on using Google Maps or Mapquest for obtaining driving directions from Castlegar to Renata – these web tools do not have the detail needed for accurate driving instructions due to Renata’s remote location. Sadly, they will only get you lost…
